Sigiriya Rock fortress

Sigiriya is the most important place to visit in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is a prehistoric rock fortress located in the northern Matale District close to the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name indicates to a site of recorded and archeological importance that is dominated by a huge section of rock almost 200 meters (660 ft) high. As per the ancient Sri Lankan narrative the Culavamsa, this site was chosen by King Kasyapa (477 - 495 CE) for his new capital. He constructed his castle on the highest point of this rock and adorned its sides with brilliant frescoes. On a little level about most of the way up the side of this rock he assembled a door as a huge lion. The name of this place is gotten from this structure Sihagiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the regal royal palace was relinquished after the ruler's demise. It was utilized as a Buddhist monastery until the fourteenth century. Sigiriya today is an UNESCO recorded World Heritage Site. It is extraordinary preserved compared old urban planning.

Polonnaruwa Ancient City

The city is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site, was the centre of Theravada Buddhism for a long time. The city lies 205 km (127 mi) north of the present capital Colombo in the North Central Province, on the banks of the historic Malvathu Oya. It is one of the most oldest continuously possessed urban communities on the planet and one of the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.It is trusted that from the fourth century BC until the start of the eleventh century AD it was the capital of the Sinhalese. During this period it stayed a standout amongst the steadiest and solid focuses of political power and urban life in South Asia. The old city, thought about holy to the Buddhist world, is today encompassed by religious communities covering a territory of more than sixteen square miles (40 km²).

Isurumuniya

Isurumuniya is a Buddhist sanctuary arranged close to the Tissa Wewa (Tisa tank) in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. There are four carvings of unique enthusiasm for this Vihara. They are the Isurumuniya Lovers, Elephant Pond and The Royal Family. There is a viharaya associated with cave and above is a cliff. A little stupa is constructed on it. It can be seen that the constructional work of this stupa have a place with the present time frame. Drop down on the two sides of a split, in a rock that seems to ascend out of a pool, have been cut the figures of elephants. On the rock is carved the figure of a horse. The cutting of Isurumuniya lovers on the chunk has been brought from somewhere else and set it there.

Avukana buddha statue

The Avukana statue is a standing statue of the Buddha is close to Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a stature of more than 40 feet (12 m), was cut out of an extensive granite rock faced amid the fifth century. It portrays a variety of the Abhaya mudra, and the firmly worn robe is intricately carved. Built during the rule of Dhatusena, it might have been made because of an opposition between master and a student. The Avukana statue is extraordinary compared to other cases of a standing statue developed in ancient Sri Lanka. It is currently a well-known for tourist attraction. The Avukana statue is situated in the town of Avukana close to Kekirawa. It is near the Kala Wewa supply, and faces it.It was cut out of a granite rock face, yet isn't totally isolated. A thin piece of rock has been left at the back of the statue, interfacing it to the rock face and supporting it. However, the platform on which the Buddha stands, which is carved as a lotus blossom, was cut independently and situated under the statue. The statue alone is 38 feet 10 inches (11.84 m) in stature, and with the platform the aggregate tallness of the Avukana statue comes to 42 feet (13 m). The statue had been situated inside an expansive picture house or place of worship, of which parts of the walls still remain. The structure was made of block and rock, and was 74 feet (23 m) long and 63 feet (19 m) wide.

Mihintale Monastery

Mihintale is a mountain top close to Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It is accepted by Sri Lankans to be the site of a gathering between the Buddhist priest Mahinda and King Devanampiyatissa which introduced the nearness of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. It is currently an excursion site, and the site of a few religious landmarks and deserted structures.
