Bentota

Bentota is nothing like your usual holiday destination, and the beach here is a fold of pristine golden sands along the mighty Indian Ocean. Apart from stunning views of the sea, The Turtle Hatchery Project at Bentota Beach is another important attraction. Up to five endangered species of turtles have been frequenting a stretch on this undisturbed beach for a long time now. Kannelya Rain Forest

Yala National Park

Yala national park basking on the southern province of Sri Lanka is one of the most visited tourism destinations in Sri Lanka. Yala national park was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and upgraded as a National park in 1938. In addition to enter the park you must come to the gateway at Tissamaharama. You can entertain an aromatic area on a safari jeep provided by the authorities. The park gets rain water during the months of May to September. Significantly the park is positioned in the dry semi arid climatic region. The park is divided in to 5 major divisions. Two of them can be accessed by the public. Kataragama Vihara

Kataragama Vihara Complex includes veneration places of the god Kataragama, Vishnu and Saman, Bo tree and a Buddhist monastery. So that it has become a multi religious sacred city of Sri Lanka. The legend behind the Temple is very interesting. Therefore hundreds of Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians visit this place daily. Kataragama is a clean and small city with wide shay roads, shops, markets. Menik ganga, so called as River of Gems can be reached easily to have a ritual bath as pilgrims do.

Bunadala National Park

Tourists must visit the Bunadala national park in hambantota without denying. This scenic location is a reputed destination among Sri Lankan tourism sites. It expands approximately 6200 hectares. This widely beautiful park is in the south east of Sri Lanka. The park can be arrived about 250 km in distance from Colombo to the park through hambantota. The park was declared as the first 'Ramsar wetland' in Sri Lanka. Bundala is a haven of wildlife. It was denominated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 and upgraded as a national park in 1993 again. Hereupon it is called as the 4th biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Kirinda

Kirinda is a small village basking in the southern province of Sri Lanka. It has become one of the most venerated places of Buddhism. The beautiful beach and the temple built on the huge rock boulder on Kirinda beach are the main attractions of Kirinda. In fact you have to climb a stair lead up to the temple. While mentioning about the serenity you can experience, a beautiful out look to the Indian Ocean can be enjoyed. Many travelers are attracted to see this panoramic view recently. It is believed that the Kirinda is the place where Princess Vihara maha devi landed after being set coastward.

Kumana National Park

Madunagala Hot Springs

Madunagala hot springs will be a monumental experience that you may ever have before. It is a beautiful creation of nature situated inmadunagala hermitage in Southern province of Sri Lanka.

Mulgirigala Rock

Since the focus towards Hambantota district has increased with the Sri Lankan tourism, Mulgirigala rock temple is visited by lots of tourists every day. The inscriptions at Mulgirigala rock temple proclaim that the temple was a monastery complex for about 2000 years ago. This high rising rock temple was a brain child of King Kavantissa. He donated an 18 feet Buddha statue to the temple. A panoramic view of the Coastal area can be seen from the top of the rock.

Sithulpawwa Rock Temple

Sithulpawwa rock temple monastery is an edifice dedicated for religious worships in the country of Sri Lanka. In order to reach the temple, you have to travel about 30 from Yala village. The name 'Siththul pawwa' was derived from 'Cittal Pawwa'. It meant 'The hill of the quiet mind'. The temple beholds a great possession since 2000 years ago.

Ussangoda

Ussangoda is a yet another place of Sri Lankan tourism comprised with valuable geographical features. Ussangama is located on the Colombo-Kataragama road near Ambalantota-Nonagama junction in Hambanthota district. It is under control by the department of archeology. Ussangoda differ from other destinations of Sri Lanka because of the excusive soil structure and flora. There are several beliefs regarding the unique reddish color of the soil. One of them is that a part of a meteor hit the ground. The layers of the soil structure have some residuals similar to a meteoroid hit. Other than that the soil structure is complemented with high concentration of minerals and metals.

Matara

Matara is a beautiful place in the southern part of Sri lanka and it is considered as a well known and visited place by tourists coming so regularly to Sri Lanka. The city is also gifted with a beautiful seaside view and attracts many visitors and honeymoon couples coming to Sri Lanka. There is a famous and huge image of the Avalokiteshvara that is of height 383 cm is placed as a majestic sculpture in the in not only the rock simply but in its niche to be more particular.

Hummanya

The Hummanya is also known as "blow hole" in the region of Sri Lanka and it is considered as the second largest in the league of blow holes, but Sri Lanka's one and only. In essence it means a distance where the sound of "hoo" can easily be listened or heard by a person. It is a well known attraction for the travelers and tourists visiting the area and is well known for its uniqueness and excitement aspect. It is located in the deeper southern region of the country and it certainly has its charming aspect that thrills many and attracts people from all across Sri Lanka.

Rumassala

Yet another place to be toured regarding Sri Lankan tourism sites is Rumassala. In colonial era it was known as 'Buona Vista' (pleasant view). The legendary chronicle 'Ramayana' proclaims that 'Rumassala' is a chunk of Himalayan Mountains in India. Rumassala hill gives you a beautiful view of the southern coast of galle. Colonials used Rumassala as a watering point to fill their crafts with fresh water. Even today we can see the Surplus of the jetty. Now it has become a service centre of ships and crafts. The Rumassala forest has a vast collection of bio diversity. It is yet another home to mammals, birds, insects and reptiles. Some of the indigenous and endemic animals, plants had been survived in the jungle.

Galle

The city of Galle in Sri lanka plays a major role in Sri lankan Tourism. The Dutch fort of Galle is arguably most interested among both Local and Foreign travelers. It was declared as a UNESCO world heritage site in Sri Lanka. Galle Dutch fort has a long history. This glorious fort was firstly built by Portuguese in 1588.

Koggala

Koggala Lake is a yet another place to be visited in Sri Lankan tourism. Koggala Lake is a un- spoiled lake located about few kilo meters away from Galle. It will feel like a paradise for nature lovers who are eagerly seeking for sites to explore and study the natural bio diversity and eco system. The isle is comprised with lush mangrove swamps at all. The lake is embellished with rocky islands, animals and shrubs. You can explore whole the area and all the islands. It is quite tremendous for bird watching and sunset sceneries in the evenings. Koggala museum is the home of former famous writer Martin Wickramasingha. Koggala town has a valuable culture, custom and folks. Koggala is an ideal place for travelers' aptitude of Sinhala culture and tradition. Koggala museum consists of wood, furniture, traditional masks and costumes of folk dancers. Visitors can enjoy the boat trips in the laggon and Koggala lake to explore other tiny islands and the bio diversity around the koggala site. Koggala is a perfect place for bird watching. Hundreds of birds are coming roost at evening.

Madol Duwa

Madol duwa is a yet another island whereas became very famous through the 'Madol Duwa' book. This novel was written by Martin Wickramasingha. Martin Wickramasingha is identified as a most renowned writer in late 20th century. The story is developed around Upali, Jinna, Ranadewa, Dangadasa and Siripala. Their struggle to success their lives in the deserted island named madol Duwa, is elaborated through the story. Even the story was made in to a film in 1976.

Surfing

Sri Lanka is a fantastic choice for a surfing holiday, and has been a popular surf destination since the 1970s. Boasting not only the escapist south-east beach settlement of Arugam Bay - which is listed as one of the top ten surf spots in the world - but also several other great surf points along the south coast, including Hikkaduwa and Mirissa, and in Trincomalee, surfers will be spoiled for choice.
